A New Team Name, the Same Team You Know: From Belle Tire to Metro Detroit Sled Hockey

We want to share an important update about our sled hockey program: beginning this season, our teams will no longer compete as Belle Tire Sled Hockey. Moving forward, we will be known as Metro Detroit Sled Hockey.

While our name is changing, everything that makes our program strong remains exactly the same. The same players will take the ice, the same coaches will be leading practices and games, and the same dedicated group of people will continue working behind the scenes to make it all possible.

It’s important to note that Metro Detroit Sled Hockey has always been the nonprofit behind the scenes, providing the support, resources, and structure that make our teams possible. 

For our donors and supporters, nothing changes. You are still giving to the same nonprofit organization you’ve always supported, and your generosity continues to directly benefit our athletes and programs.

This change allows us to keep our focus where it has always been—on building opportunities for athletes with disabilities to play sled hockey, grow their skills, and be part of a supportive team community.

Here’s what won’t change:

• Our athletes will still have the same teammates beside them.

• Our coaches and volunteers will continue their commitment to guiding and supporting players.

• Our mission remains centered on creating a positive, inclusive environment where adaptive athletes can thrive.

Like with any transition, there are a few details still being worked out. We are actively managing these pieces to ensure a smooth path forward, and we will keep our families and supporters updated along the way.

As we begin this next chapter as Metro Detroit Sled Hockey, we want to reassure everyone—players, families, donors, and fans—that the heart of our program is unchanged. The passion, commitment, and community that have always driven sled hockey in our region remain firmly in place.
